Ruckert Excited to Reunite with Fields

Garrett Wilson isn’t the only player from the Jets reconnecting with Justin Fields this spring. Tight end Jeremy Ruckert, who also played at Ohio State with Fields, shares his excitement about seeing his former college teammate at Flowham Park.

“It was really amazing,” Ruckert mentioned. “Any chance to reconnect with a former teammate, whether it’s from college or the NFL, is great. I’m really looking forward to seeing how we develop as a team and the culture we’re building. He’s a perfect fit for that role, and he’s growing with the unit.”

Ruckert believes Fields brings more than just physical talent to the team. He pointed out his mental toughness. “I think his mental strength is the biggest asset. He stays cool under pressure, and he genuinely thrives on it. Since our college days, he’s always shown a great attitude and professionalism that continues to uplift the team.”

This season is significant for Ruckert since it marks his fourth year in the league. New head coach Aaron Glenn has challenged him to bring more consistency in his performance. The Jets lost Tyler Conklin to free agency, which has created an opening in the tight end position.

However, with the team drafting Mason Taylor in the second round, Ruckert knows he’ll have competition for playing time. “I’ve focused heavily on being the most consistent player possible,” he said, reflecting on the challenge ahead.

Glenn also indicated that the Jets and Giants will hold joint practices this August prior to their preseason matchup, with plans for one session to take place at the Giants’ headquarters in East Rutherford.
