Philadelphia Student Faces Federal Charges After Protest

A student from Temple University in Philadelphia has voluntarily turned himself in to federal authorities following charges stemming from an anti-ICE protest at St. Paul’s Church in Minnesota. The demonstration also involved journalist Don Lemon.

Jerome Richardson, a senior majoring in political science who is set to graduate in May, reportedly assisted Lemon with “logistics and field communications.” Prior to his arrest, Richardson appeared in a video expressing that he participated in the protests out of conscience and faith.

According to officials, Richardson surrendered in Philadelphia and was released after appearing in court while awaiting trial. There is a GoFundMe campaign launched to support his legal defense.

Attorney General Pam Bondi posted on social media, stating, “If you riot in a place of worship, we will find you.” She mentioned that two additional individuals, Ian Davis Austin and Jerome DeAngelo Richardson, have been arrested in connection with the protest at Cities Church.

Don Lemon, formerly with CNN, was arrested last week after he appeared in court in Los Angeles. His next hearing is set for February 9 in Minneapolis, where he remains out on bail. Lemon asserts that he was fulfilling his journalistic duties by covering the protests, citing First Amendment protections. Critics, however, argue that his actions may not align with journalistic integrity.

In his recent Instagram posts, Richardson noted he supports Lemon and connected him with key local contacts for reporting on ICE activities. He expressed that this support has now made him a target of the Trump administration and anticipates being in federal custody soon.

Richardson revealed his thoughts about the situation, emphasizing the importance of continuing the fight for justice and encouraging donations for his legal defense. His remarks come amid ongoing charges of conspiracy aimed at blocking individuals from exercising their religious freedoms.

Temple University’s spokesperson commented on the incident, acknowledging their awareness of the situation but refraining from providing specific details to respect the legal process. The university reiterated its commitment to the First Amendment and promotes constructive dialogue among students about their beliefs and values.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Richardson for further comments.
