Jerry Adler, Beloved Actor from “The Sopranos,” Passes Away at 96
Jerry Adler, best known for his performances in “The Sopranos” and “The Good Wife,” has died at the age of 96. His family from Brooklyn, New York, shared the news through an online obituary on Saturday.
The obituary notes, “Jerry Adler passed away on August 23, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on February 4, 1929, Jerry was a resident of New York City.”
The cause of death has not been revealed yet; however, his representative provided some details, stating he “died peacefully while he was sleeping in New York City.”
Adler is survived by his four daughters: Alisa, Amy, Laura, and Emily. Many fans and colleagues took to the obituary to express their condolences and share memories. One fan remarked, “Rest in peace, Jerry. I’ve been so happy to see you on screen as Hesh for many years. Thank you for the memories.”
Another fan expressed a deeper sentiment: “I always loved him on screen and I loved him as a human being. Today, I lost the real thing.”
Stage manager Jimmy Harton reflected on his time working with Adler, writing, “I am truly grateful that I knew a bit of the legend of New York.” Fellow actor Frank J. Riley also shared his thoughts, mentioning that Adler’s late start in acting, beginning at 65, was quite impressive.
Before his television fame, Adler had a rich career on Broadway and worked as the stage manager for the original production of “My Fair Lady.” He later appeared in several notable films, including Woody Allen’s “Manhattan Murder Mystery” and Charlie Kaufman’s “Synecdoche, New York.”
Along with his children, Adler is remembered by his wife, Joan Luxman, who is 31 years his junior.
