Jerry Jones discusses honoring Charlie Kirk

The Dallas Cowboys paid tribute to Charlie Kirk before their game on Sunday, following the tragic assassination of the conservative influencer in Utah earlier that week. The team displayed Kirk’s photos on the video board at AT&T Stadium right before their match against the New York Giants.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones spoke to reporters after the game, explaining the team’s choice to honor the 31-year-old. “We hate all violence. It affects us all. We stand together against the threat of violence. When I was younger, during the ’60s, we saw that with President Kennedy and Martin Luther King,” he reflected.

He emphasized the importance of supporting law enforcement to help keep violence under control, which I think resonates with many people today.

Multiple teams, including the Cowboys, Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, and New Orleans Saints, acknowledged Kirk before the 1 PM game. In the late afternoon, the Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs followed suit. However, some teams like the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, and Indianapolis Colts chose not to participate in the tribute.

Kirk was shot while giving a speech at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, which instigated a 33-hour manhunt that culminated in the arrest of Tyler Robinson.

All around the country, memorials have been held in recent days to honor his legacy, showing just how much he meant to so many.
