Jerry Jones makes an illogical trade suggestion involving Micah Parsons and Quinnen Williams

Texas Trade Rumors Heat Up

In Texas, everything tends to be bigger—including the trade rumors swirling around the Cowboys. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones mentioned on Friday that he had previously offered former Jets standout defensive end Micah Parsons along with a first-round draft pick in exchange for Quinnen Williams during training camp.

Jones stated that “For Williams, it’s Wang and Parsons,” elaborating on his perspective about Williams. However, this claim seems a bit exaggerated. Earlier in the year, he had expressed an interest in acquiring Williams and a draft pick from the Jets for Parsons, but this latest revelation seems to flip that narrative on its head.

The former deal makes more sense in retrospect compared to the current one. First off, the Cowboys primarily needed just one first-round pick to secure Williams—implying that demanding Parsons along with a first-rounder seems rather far-fetched. Additionally, Parsons had previously fetched two first-round picks and Kenny Clark in a trade, suggesting a star player’s value is quite different. It’s curious why Jones thinks the trade should require such a significant offer for Williams.

On Friday, Jones also claimed that any potential deal with the Jets—regardless of the specifics—never came to fruition due to salary cap constraints that would have complicated paying Parsons.

Jones eventually managed to acquire Williams at the trade deadline, who has since revitalized a team that seemed lost in the middle of the season. Presently, Dallas holds a record of 6-5-1, riding a three-game winning streak—an impressive feat against teams including the reigning AFC champion Chiefs.

In their latest game, Williams showcased his defensive abilities, making four tackles, one of which was for a loss. Jones noted, “He shows what he can do on defense,” highlighting the impact Williams has had since joining the team.

As it stands, the Cowboys find themselves in ninth place within the NFC—still, there’s a sense of renewed hope.
