Jerry Jones rejects tribute video for Micah Parsons' return to the Cowboys

NFL Week 4: Cowboys vs. Packers Showdown

As the NFL gears up for week 4, one matchup has sparked significant interest: the Dallas Cowboys taking on the Green Bay Packers at AT&T Stadium.

This game is particularly notable because it marks Micah Parsons’ return. Over the offseason, the Packers made a surprising trade that involved four Pro Bowl players, including Parsons, who had a standout season with Green Bay. Meanwhile, the Cowboys’ defense showed vulnerability without him.

The “Sunday Night Football” spotlight has raised the question of whether the Cowboys would honor Parsons with a tribute video for his past contributions. However, team owner Jerry Jones has firmly stated that this won’t happen.

Jones explained, “I don’t think this is appropriate. Emmitt [Smith’s return] was a different story.” He did acknowledge that Parsons is well-liked among fans and emphasized the need to recognize that differing perspectives exist.

It’s quite common for teams to produce tribute videos for star players returning to former teams. Parsons, who was picked 12th overall in 2021, racked up 52.5 sacks and 112 quarterback hits during his tenure with the Cowboys.

Jones drew a comparison between Parsons and Smith, who is a Hall of Famer with three Super Bowl victories under his belt during his 13 seasons in Dallas.

After his release in 2003, Smith received a tribute when he returned to play against the Arizona Cardinals.

While Parsons has earned fan admiration in Dallas, some tension seems to linger between him and Jones. In three matchups against the Packers, Parsons has recorded 1.5 sacks and six quarterback hits. Currently, the Cowboys have a season record of 1-2 following their loss to the Cleveland Browns.
