Mika Parsons Saga Continues with Lighthearted Moments
In the midst of ongoing tense contract discussions surrounding Mika Parsons, a humorous moment took place between Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Parsons’ mother, Shelles, during a preseason game in Dallas on Friday.
While engaging with fans, Jones spotted Chereze, who was sporting a number 11 jersey, and jokingly remarked, “Now, Mika, are you not playing there?”
The two then took a photo, which was shared on social media by Parsons’ brother, Terence.
Terence commented, “Jerry is working hard,” reflecting the light mood amidst the negotiations.
On the same night, Parsons drew attention for his antics at AT&T Stadium, even though he sat out the final preseason match against the Falcons. He was seen indulging in nachos pre-game, and later resting on the medical table, which prompted Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer to state that he would need to discuss Parsons’ behavior with him.
Schottenheimer emphasized, “We need to understand what he’s doing and why he was doing it without talking to Mika. So until I talk to him, I’m clearly not going to talk about it.”
This year, Parsons has been a hold-in at training camp while seeking a new contract extension as his rookie deal, worth $24 million, is set to expire after the season. He even called for a trade on August 1, expressing dissatisfaction with remaining in Dallas.
Jones also addressed speculation about potentially replacing the 26-year-old Parsons—who tallied 12 sacks last season and 52½ over his four-year career—by mentioning the possibility of retaining team control through franchise tags in 2026 and 2027.
At one point, Jones claimed that Parsons’ agent, David Murguetta, should present an offer, which led analyst Ryan Clark to challenge this statement, describing it as “all bulkulup” and “all lies” in a social media video.
Additionally, Parsons was reportedly managing some back issues throughout training camp—though this might be part of his negotiation strategy. Schottenheimer clarified that an MRI taken Friday came back “pretty clean.”
After a disappointing 7-10 finish to their 2024 season, the Cowboys are set to kick off their new season on September 4 against the Eagles.
