Jerry O’Connell Reflects on Split from Giuliana Rancic
Jerry O’Connell has addressed his breakup with Giuliana Rancic, acknowledging her detailed account of their split.
Years after Rancic’s memoir, *Going Off Script*, came out, Kelly Ripa asked O’Connell during a broadcast if he was indeed the one who ended things with her.
In the 2015 book, Rancic recounted a moment where O’Connell reportedly said, “No, I’m sorry, Homegirl. Things have changed, but be careful, okay?”
On a recent episode of *Let’s Talk Off Camera*, O’Connell admitted, “I don’t remember,” and noted that he used “accurate language” back in 2004 when they broke up.
The actor, now 52, said, “I can’t deny that I said that. It doesn’t really sound like something I would say, but if I were writing a memoir, it would be a good quote.” He acknowledged Rancic’s creative use of language in her writing.
O’Connell described himself as a “terrible boyfriend” during their relationship from 2003 to 2004, revealing some context behind their breakup. He mentioned a situation involving another woman in his apartment while Rancic was trying to get in.
He didn’t disclose the identity of that woman, but Ripa speculated it might have been either Geri Halliwell from the Spice Girls or his current wife, Rebecca Romijn. O’Connell said their relationship was complicated and hinted at uncertainty regarding their exclusivity at that point.
“I said, ‘I didn’t know you were coming. You can’t come here without notice,'” he recalled, noting that nobody had keys and that they were trying to avoid any confrontations.
When Ripa brought up Rancic’s suggestion of infidelity, O’Connell agreed she presented her feelings well in her memoir, comparing it to the disappointment of hearing from a customer service representative about lost luggage.
A representative for Rancic did not provide any comment regarding the situation.
O’Connell also shared a lighthearted anecdote about his brief date with Sarah Michelle Gellar, reminiscing about how she ended things, stating, “She was the smartest person. Sarah Michelle took one look at me and said, ‘You have to get away from this drunk. This is it.’
He expressed admiration for Gellar’s current husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., and emphasized that he seeks no trouble with their family.
