Group of anti-Israel demonstrators disrupted jerry seinfeld People outside the annual Jewish event in New York City over the weekend.
On Sunday night, Mr. Seinfeld went to the 92nd Street Y, a Jewish community center in Manhattan, to attend the center’s annual Jewish State of the Union address. This year’s speech was given by former New York Times columnist Bari Weiss.
As Seinfeld attempted to leave the Jewish Center, a crowd of anti-Israel demonstrators gathered around him and repeatedly accused Seinfeld of supporting “genocide.” “You support genocide! You support genocide!” one woman shouted.
Some demonstrators stood up and enthusiastically waved Palestinian flags, while at least one person blew a whistle noisily. Almost everyone was wearing masks.
Despite the group’s apparent hostility, Seinfeld was said to be “cool as a cucumber.” TMZProbably because he was flanked by several NYPD officers. He smiled and waved to the crowd, then quietly climbed into a black SUV parked at the curb.
As his car drove away, the crowd continued to hurl abuse at him. “Fuck you! You support genocide,” several people shouted.
At least two protesters were arrested outside the community center that night, but it is unclear whether they were charged with a crime.
Many anti-Israel groups directed their anger at Seinfeld. Seinfeld not only attended an event at a community center, but also had an “emotional meeting” with Israelis who were once held hostage by Hamas in Tel Aviv a few months ago. Seinfeld was also one of 700 people in the entertainment industry to sign a letter condemning the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7th. CNN report.
Although Mr. Seinfeld is passionately pro-Israel, he likely wasn’t the main target of the protests in New York City. Instead, those protesters reportedly gathered to demonstrate against Weiss.
In particular, some may have been motivated by the death of Palestinian professor Refaat Alalil. Last fall, after Weiss retweeted a screenshot in which Aralile appeared to be joking about an Israeli baby being cooked alive in an oven, Aralir said that if she were to die, she would be responsible for her own death. He claimed he would blame “Bari Weiss and his friends.”
Alalil was killed in an Israeli military attack in the Gaza Strip in December last year.
