Seinfeld Responds to Anti-Israel Protesters During Chicago Show
Last Friday, comedian Jerry Seinfeld faced off against anti-Israel protesters during his performance at the Chicago Theatre. As security removed the demonstrators, Seinfeld turned the situation into a moment of humor, mocking them for trying to disrupt his show.
A video that circulated online captures activists yelling accusations at Seinfeld regarding Israel’s actions in Gaza, claiming, among other things, that American taxpayer dollars are being used to support the killings of many civilians. One protester notably shouted, “Twenty-two thousand Palestinians who are children now are killed with our taxpayer money, and you’re making jokes!”
In a cheeky response, Seinfeld joked about being “racist” and sarcastically mused about the notion of genocide, asserting, “I’m into it.” He also said he would check how much the protesters had paid for their tickets and send the money directly to Israel.
As the folks from security were escorting the protestors out, an audience member even shouted a rough comment, “Rough her up!”
The disruption was organized by the Anti-War Committee Chicago and the local US Palestinian Community Network, who took to Instagram to proclaim their intent, stating, “Friday’s disruption sent a clear message: Those who defend Israel’s genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in Gaza and throughout Palestine will be met with protest and are not welcome on Chicago’s stages without opposition.”
Attempts to reach out for comments from Seinfeld’s team went unanswered. This incident follows a string of protests against the comedian, known for his strong support of Israel.
Media analyst Tim Young suggested that the protests seem more about gaining attention than actual political debate. He remarked, “They know that once they start yelling, everyone will whip their cameras out, and it is a very direct interaction…” He believes that attending Seinfeld’s shows has become a way for some activists to press their agendas similarly to protests at political rallies.
This is not the first time Seinfeld’s shows have been disrupted. In May 2024, he experienced a walkout during a commencement address at Duke University where some students displayed Palestinian flags. He returned to Duke in September 2025 and addressed protests directly, saying, “Free Palestine is, to me, just — you’re free to say you don’t like Jews. Just say you don’t like Jews.”
Recently, Seinfeld faced backlash abroad as multiple acts withdrew from a festival in Lisbon where he is set to perform, citing concerns related to the Israel-Gaza situation.
Young criticized the underlying motivations for the protests, suggesting that they revolve around control and influence over prominent figures like Seinfeld. “This is all about control. It’s all about power,” he emphasized, pointing to the dynamics of activism in today’s society.
