Jess Edwards Discusses Her Romance with Spencer Conley, Justin's Unforeseen Rose Ceremony Surprise, and More

He was a pet portrait artist, while she worked as an executive assistant for a disaster consulting firm. Quite a contrast, right?

So, just to clarify, you can’t belt out Avril Lavigne’s hits while watching Bachelor in Paradise. In Season 10, Episode 2, there was a memorable moment between Spencer Conley and Jess Edwards.

Things heated up when four new women arrived at the beach in Episode 2, introducing a “devil” kiss booth. This challenge tested the contestants’ chemistry, allowing them to swipe right or left on each other. If they matched, it led to some private kissing—though many seemed to use it for a bit of fun and exploration. Jess and Spencer, on the other hand, made it clear they were focused on one another.

“For me, it was just about kissing one guy, so that made my decision easy,” Edwards shared in a Zoom chat. “I hoped Spencer would choose me, but it was still only the second week. I get it if he swiped at other women.”

I think there’s something to be said for early loyalty, reflecting on Jess and Spencer’s potential. Another pair, Lexi Young and Justin Glaze, opted for a single kiss, but a surprising twist in the Rose Ceremony left them on shaky ground.

“It was written all over our faces. Total shock. None of us expected that,” Edwards said on Tuesday, hinting at the cliffhanger leading into Episode 3.

Amidst the ongoing drama, Edwards discussed Hannah Brown’s impact on the show and the anticipated arrival of Golden, who could shake up her budding relationship with Spencer.

Decider: After Joey’s season, I was thrilled to see you enjoying some drama-free days on Paradise. But then there was that brief love triangle involving Sam M. Did you feel he matured since then?

Jess Edwards: Honestly, when I entered Paradise, I was determined not to judge anyone. I mean, they could easily judge me too. My talks with Sam were great—he’s a nice guy, no red flags. Ultimately, I just felt a deeper connection with Spencer.

Yes! I’m all for matcha!

[Laughs] Right? It’s my go-to.

I’m curious about how you felt watching Spencer talk about you on camera, particularly when he was going through a rough patch during a date.

Honestly, I found it amusing. I thought, “Wow, it’s funny how he’s feeling that way.” And I genuinely hoped he was okay while I was gone.

This season has introduced fresh challenges, with Episode 2 highlighting the “devil” kiss booth. What was the vibe like? Were you anxious anyone might swipe Spencer away?

The challenge was pretty wild. “What even is this?!” It was a unique opportunity, especially for the newcomers, but for me, I was set on kissing just one guy. I was definitely hoping Spencer would choose me, but, who knows, being early in the season, I would’ve understood if he looked elsewhere. But he didn’t! That felt amazing.

It’s funny to hear you apologize to your boss not just for your family, but also for any awkward moments on camera. Did you get any feedback from her about Spencer?

[Laughs] Yeah, she texted me during Episode 1 saying, “Sam, no! Spencer, yes!” I couldn’t help but smile.

About the chaotic situation with Brian dropping Zoe for Parisa—what did you think about that?

Paradise is a tricky environment. It’s tough to navigate romantic connections. In my opinion, Brian could’ve handled it with a bit more respect. Zoe deserved more closure, but I guess everyone has their own experience. If he felt that was enough, that’s his choice. But watching from the sidelines, I would have expected at least a conversation.

We have to touch on Justin choosing Lexi’s ex, Susie. Did that completely surprise you? Since Lexi is your close friend, what was going through your mind?

Honestly, my first thought was, “Oh no, my best friend might be going home!” I didn’t want that for her. Then it hit me—what does this mean for her? Is he really choosing Susie, or just giving her a chance? Everyone was equally stunned.

In Episode 2, there’s a dramatic teaser for Episode 3 teasing Justin leaving the set. What can you say about that Rose Ceremony?

Wow, let me tell you, when you think you’ve figured things out, you definitely haven’t.

Next week, new contestants will arrive on the beach. What kind of impact do you think they’ll have on Paradise dynamics?

Oh, the new arrivals were refreshing! All that energy was just what we needed after the earlier drama. They brought the party vibe, making things lively. I hit it off with Cathy, Leslie, and Keith—they’re just awesome.

One thing I enjoy about you and Spencer is the light moments between the drama, like small compliments. Do you wish more of that made it onto the screen?

Yeah, we really opened up about our families and backgrounds, which felt great. We’ve got our own quirky inside jokes, too. Like, we once spotted a lizard and jokingly called it our love child. [Laughs] It was a strange but fun moment.

I heard you’re a big fan of Dr. Pepper Zero, while Spencer apparently loves diet cola. Does that cause any soda-related debates between you two?

[Laughs] Here’s a fun fact—he actually likes Dr. Pepper Zero just as much as diet cola.

Oh, is he just keeping that off his brand?

Yeah, he jokes that he can’t be the guy who is all over the place with his soda choices. [Laughs]

Many say you resemble Hannah Brown, the iconic figure from the series. How was it to finally meet her?

I won’t lie; when she showed up, I was totally starstruck! I exclaimed, “Hannah, I adore you!” and I took her a bit by surprise. [Laughs] She’s genuinely lovely and gave me great advice.

One of the season’s biggest twists is Jesse’s choice between $500,000 or finding love. What do you think about how this might impact the contestants?

Honestly, that was a shocker! I didn’t see that coming at all. It raised some eyebrows, right? Not many expect that shake-up in Paradise this season.

While the answer might not be that thrilling, what can you say about you and Spencer’s relationship?

Even in Episode 2, it was clear we were outside the drama. Just enjoying our time together was refreshing.

Speaking of which, I remember reading that you’re a huge Taylor Swift fan. If you had to pick one song that represents your experience on Paradise, what would it be?

Definitely “Love Story.”

That’s perfect! Especially because when I asked Hannah Brown, she mentioned a Taylor song as well.

[Laughs] No way! We should totally compile those!
