“We had a very difficult time telling the story.”
The “7th Heaven” alum explained that she and Purple produced the short and feature films, which she described as a “labor of love.” However, the two were unable to sell either project.
“Then years later, we found out about ‘The Sinner’ and built that show from the ground up,” Beal said.
“When we were actually selling the show, Michelle and I looked at each other and she said, ‘If this show doesn’t sell, I’m leaving.’
“I said, ‘Me too, I’m quitting. I’m not doing this. I don’t know. If this show doesn’t sell, I don’t know what people want. I don’t know what to do. Please bring it to me. I don’t understand this job anymore.

Speaking on the podcast The Bright Side, Biel said it was a “humbling” experience proving that he could succeed as a producer despite having an established acting career.
“It was basically like starting over at some level,” she said.
The “Illusionist” star noted that the industry is very different than it was a few years ago, with little interest in female-led projects.
“No one cared about women’s stories back then,” Beal said. “That was before we had this amazing runway that represented powerful and complex women’s stories.

“So it wasn’t even the right time and we were fighting against all the elements. It was a very humbling experience, and it continues to be humbling.”

Beal said it’s difficult for anyone to succeed in Hollywood.
“I don’t think my industry or being an actor or producer is easy in any way,” she said.
“A lot of blood, sweat and tears go into making these projects a reality, but much of what we work on will never come to fruition.
“I think most producers would say the same thing. They have that experience, but it’s very difficult. And myself, I’m in the process of separating my company from my acting career. .”

The “Total Recall” star explained that she still faces challenges as an actress getting roles.
“I’m fighting for the role I really want, and I’m auditioning for it, but I don’t get it,” she said. “I still hear no’s, like a lot of no’s.
“It’s a humbling job in every way,” Beal added. “And I think it will always be that way.”
