Beale was sitting one row behind Rocha, who was sitting next to her husband, James Conlan.

As Gauff and Maria battled it out, temperatures at Flushing Meadows dipped into the mid-80s, and both Beal and Rocha could be seen fanning themselves on the muggy night.

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour is a regular at Grand Slam tournaments, and Wednesday was no exception, attending the two-set match.

Gauff is seeking her second consecutive U.S. Open title and has not dropped a set in her two matches so far.

On Monday she beat Varvara Gracheva 6-2, 6-0 and then won in straight sets on Wednesday.

Gauff, who failed to reach the third round of the women's singles at the Olympics, said after Monday's win that she had struggled in recent weeks.

“These last few weeks have been tough. I've been like, 'I have to do this and that, but I don't have to prove anything to anyone but myself,' so I'm just focused on the last two weeks just proving all the expectations that are placed on me,” Gauff said at the time. “It's going to be years before I get back here and I'm not going to win every year. I just look at it that way and have a belief that I can do it, but I don't have an expectation that I should win.”
