American Olympian Medals in Cross-Country Skiing

Jesse Diggins, the American athlete, pushed through intense pain to finish the women’s 10km freestyle cross-country ski race at the Winter Olympics on Thursday, clinching a bronze medal. Her performance was particularly notable as she was dealing with bruised ribs during the event.

Crossing the finish line, Diggins fell to the ground, visibly in distress. Viewers on NBC could hear her cries as teammates rushed to assist her in catching her breath. Despite the agony, her dedication to the sport shone through, allowing her to achieve this Olympic milestone with a time of 23:38.90.

Sweden’s Frida Karlsson dominated the event, finishing with a time of 22:49.20, which was a significant lead over her compatriot Eva Andersson, who trailed by 46.6 seconds. Norway’s Astoria Oile Slind finished just over three seconds behind Diggins.

This victory marked Team USA’s first medal of the day, as the overall standings looked competitive against Italy and Norway. In the 2022 Beijing Olympics, Diggins captured a silver in this same event and added a bronze in the individual sprint. She also brought home gold in the team sprint at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics.

Looking ahead, Diggins has the potential to win more medals in upcoming events, including the 50-meter classic race and the 4×7.5-kilometer relay.

It’s worth noting that Diggins and fellow American Ben Ogden are both medalists in their sport, as Ogden secured silver in the men’s classic sprint earlier in the week.
