Jets’ Allen Lazard showing connection with Aaron Rodgers

Allen Lazard scored more touchdowns on Monday night than he did in his entire first season with the Jets.

So this looks like a forgettable year for the wide receiver compared to 2023, when things got a lot worse with an injury to Aaron Rodgers.

“He should have had a stick. [route] “Lazard had a drop at the start of the game,” Rodgers joked about his longtime friend, referring to Lazard's drop on the game's first drive. “Other than that, he played really well. I'm more proud of the goal-line play than anything else because that was his reward. He got paid to be a dirty guy, stick his head in there and finish the play, get a block. And then after the drop, he caught a great fade and got going and made a great adjustment on the free play.” [for a touchdown]Stick's route went 15 yards.

“I'm really proud of Allen. That's what I expect from him. What's really cool is that that's what he expects from himself. So last year was a really tough year for him, but I think that's the Allen that you've seen all through training camp and that's the Allen that I know and love on Monday nights.”

Lazard's second touchdown came on quarterback Tyrod Taylor's final drive of the game, but the chemistry between him and Rodgers was clear when the Jets scored in the third quarter.

Rodgers passed to Lazard along the sideline for 26 yards, then three plays later Leonard Floyd was offsides for a 36-yard touchdown pass, and then Rodgers passed to Lazard again.

Essentially, Lazard's history with Rodgers is the reason he's with the Jets, and it's started to pay off in just his one game as quarterback.

“His mindset and where he's at is a lot different than a year ago,” coach Robert Saleh said. “Last year, a drop on the first three downs probably would have killed the whole game. But he persevered in the run game. … And to have him come through in the passing game is great.”

The Jets only held a walk-through on Wednesday instead of a full practice.

Still, Michael Carter II (ankle) and DJ Reed (knee) would have been limited if they had practiced.

Saleh said neither was a concern for Sunday's game.

Former Jets safety Jamal Adams missed the Titans' Week 1 game with a hip injury but was a full participant in practice on Wednesday.

There has been no movement on Haason Reddick's holdout, Saleh said.

When asked if the defensive line's struggles against the Niners added a sense of urgency to do something, the coach said there was less pressure on Brock Purdy, mainly because the quarterback was getting the ball out quickly.
