Jets brass doesn’t offer much explanation for Aaron Rodgers

INDIANAPOLIS – New jet decision makers have reiterated their desire to put great players on the roster on Tuesday.

Apparently, Aaron Rodgers was not qualified.

New general manager Darren Moosy and head coach Aaron Glenn met the media at the NFL Scouting Combine. Their first comment announced that the team had moved from future Hall of Fame quarterback Rodgers.

Glenn and Moogie didn't provide much explanation for the decision, but they said it was the best decision for the team, but didn't say why.

“AG and I had a lot of dialogue, a lot of conversations, a lot of good ideas, and at the end of the day it's best to see Jet move forward in a different direction at quarterback. That's what Moozy said.[I have] Aaron Rodgers as a player, and a lot of respect as a person and the first Barot Hall of Famer wants him the best, but that was a decision we made. ”

Glenn had nothing more to say than GM about the biggest decision he had to make in his short time at work. Glenn postponed to Moogie, who spoke in front of him.

He was upset about the quarterback question when he pushed whether he believed the Jets could get a better quarterback than Rodgers this season.

“We don't want to downplay the other players we have on our team,” Glenn said. “It's making me mad and some of the other players are all talking about. There's Quinnen Williams. You have Quincy Williams. You have Quincy Williams. [Alijah Vera-Tucker]. You have Joe Tipman. All of them should be respected as long as they win the game as well. ”

Rogers is still on the roster for now. Mougey said the team has not made a final decision on whether to designate Rogers as a cut after June 1, but that's what they're “likely”.

If they do so, they could split the money that died at this year's salary cap into $14 million and $35 million in 2026, rather than $49 million this year.

If they want to use the June 1 cut designation, they will have to wait to cut him until the new league year on March 12th.

While refusing to shed much light on the decision, Moogie said the Jets never gave Rogers any parameters regarding the return. It was reported that the team would no longer appear in the “Pat McCuffy Show” and would be more committed to the offseason program if he returned.

“I am not going to discuss the private discussions that Aaron and I had throughout this process, or the private discussions that I had with any player. “I am not going to discuss either the private discussions that occurred during the process.” Not here. I say this: There was never an ultimatum or engagement rule that Aaron could rejoin the Jets. It never happened.”

Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams was one player to express his disappointment at the decision on social media. Glenn said he spoke to Williams.

“I understand the players' reactions,” Glenn said. “But I say this, with me [Mougey] Makeup is about winning now, winning now. I understand that, but again, this is not the last decision I would confuse some people. that's ok. As men, we try to talk and keep it in-house. ”

Now, the problem is: Where will the Jets point to Rogers' alternatives?

Through the draft, Mougey said it would “emit all options” whether it's a free agency or trade.

“We're looking for a winner,” Glenn said when asked what he's looking for at quarterback.

The candidate for the job currently on the roster is 35-year-old Tyrod Taylor.

Mougey and Glenn both said they are confident in Taylor.

“Another player who's excited to see him on the roster,” Moosie said. “I've been around a lot of players and coaches who came around Tyrod. I've heard a lot of good things about him before I came here. I talk to Tyrod a few times a few times. I had the opportunity. I'm really looking forward to him being on the team.”
