Jets can get some revenge by crushing Dolphins’ playoff hopes

Although the season has effectively been over since Dec. 8, Sunday's final game of the season against the Dolphins at MetLife Stadium has meaning for the Jets.

In Week 14, Miami eliminated the Jets from the playoffs with a 32-26 overtime victory, marking the 14th straight season in which the Jets have missed the playoffs.

This was Aaron Rodgers' best game as a Jet, with his offense gaining a season-best 402 yards.

The future Hall of Famer threw for 339 yards, joining Davante Adams for 109 yards and a touchdown and Garrett Wilson for 114 yards.

However, the defense did not support the offense.

Tua Tagovailoa wasn't hit or sacked, but the Jets defense couldn't force any turnovers and gave up 375 yards.

On Sunday, the Jets have a chance to return the favor by eliminating the Dolphins from the playoffs with a combination of a win over the Chiefs and a loss to the Broncos.

“I think it gives some players an advantage,” DJ Reed told the Post on Thursday. “I think any division rival, any division opponent, you just want to play your best, really any game, but especially a division opponent. That's what I'm going to do. It's like a championship game.”

“I think for us, we're just trying to finish on a good note,” Adams added. “With all the uncertainty for basically everyone this year, I want to put something good on tape. For me, it's not the Packers-Bears rivalry, but even after the dreams were destroyed. I don’t want to see them continue.”

To get back to that clicky offense, passing game coordinator Todd Downing said he wanted the offense to “fly around” more loosely and feel lighter.

“They were celebrating each other and really having fun, and that's going to be the key to us giving back this week,” Downing said.

The Jets had 2 of 5 in the red zone against Miami and had two three-and-outs in the fourth quarter.

Adams said such mishaps could be avoided if people watched the movie this week.

In the Jets' favor, quarterback Tagovailoa may not be under center as he is nursing a hip injury and had limited participation in practice Wednesday and Thursday.

Head coach Mike McDaniel announced that the team is preparing as if No. 2 Tyler Huntley is the starter.

special teams coordinator Brant Boyer Greg Zuerlein said If the Jets needed a field goal in last week's 40-14 loss to the Bills, they would have kicked a field goal.

Zuerlein, who was scheduled to be all for the Jets heading into the Week 17 game, suffered back inflammation just before kickoff and was back on injured reserve after recovering from a knee injury in October.

“This was the best I've seen him kick all year. He had a hell of a week of practice. I mean, it's disappointing,” Boyer said Thursday.

Greg Joseph He will take over kicking duties for the Jets on Sunday, making franchise history as the fifth kicker of the season.

For the first time since 2021, a Jets player was not selected to a Pro Bowl game.

Instead, six players were selected as substitutes for the match scheduled for February 2nd.

Quinnen Williams Selected as first team reserve, followed by Irvin Charles. (2nd), garrett wilson (3rd team), Will McDonald (3rd), Source Gardner (5th place) and Xavier Gipson (5th).

This is the ninth consecutive season for the Jets that no offensive player has been nominated to the Pro Bowl.

The last one was wideout Brandon Marshall in 2015.

The Jets announced they have completed interviews with former Panthers and Commanders head coach Ron Rivera and current ESPN and ABC analyst Louis Riddick in preparation for their season opener. Due to the vacancy of General Manager.

Gardner accepted the Good Guy Award from the media on Thursday.
