The Jets may be without one of their best defensive players on Sunday.
Surprisingly, No. 2 cornerback DJ Reed did not practice Friday with an ankle injury and is listed as questionable after being limited the previous two days.
He was assessed before training on Friday and his status was changed as a result.
If Reed can't go, Brandyn Echols will likely take his place.
The Jets could opt to move Sauce Gardner along with Titans star receiver Calvin Ridley, something they did at times against the 49ers' Brandon Aiyuk in Week 1.
Aiyuk only had two catches for 28 yards.
“I mean, we’re going to do that a little bit,” defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich said Thursday. “We have some special talent. [Gardner]”He has the ability to do some very unique and special things, and we're going to try to make the most of that.”
Garrett Wilson's goal on offense Sunday was simple.
progress.
What would that look like for the star receiver?
“We're just going to score, play efficiently and not get out three times in a row,” he said Friday. “We're just going to play good football and you'll see.”
Wilson was encouraged by how the offense improved as the game against the 49ers went on.

Despite limited opportunities, the Jets scored three touchdowns and Aaron Rodgers showed he's still got what it takes to be a force at age 40 and after rupturing his Achilles tendon.
Most impressive to Wilson were some of Rodgers' well-timed passes to Allen Lazard, including a 36-yard touchdown pass after he lured the defense offsides and got a free play.
“We got one of the best players of all time, so in my opinion we have to develop him into the best player of all time,” Wilson said. “He's a really good player.”
Wilson wasn't too pleased with his performance, which included six catches for 60 yards, especially late in the loss.
He’s still building chemistry with Rodgers.
The more they practice together, the more this will come true.
“It's exciting. I play receiver and I'm an aggressive guy and I like to score,” he said. “That's the way it is. Explosive plays are [the throws to Lazard]With a man like this [Rodgers]you really can do it.”
Coach Robert Saleh said the plan in the loss to the 49ers was to give receiver Mike Williams about 15 snaps.
The final score was nine points, as the Jets' offensive line was on the sideline frequently.
Williams is still recovering from ACL surgery last October and is expected to see a slightly increased workload on Sunday.
“If we [gotten] “If it was a normal 65-play game, we would have kept the pace. So, simply put, we're trying to get him on the field more,” Saleh said.
Cornerback Michael Carter II (ankle) and defensive lineman Michael Clemons (triceps) practiced fully on Friday.
But Clemons is being questioned.
Defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw (personal reasons) returned to practice on a limited basis. He will be active.
