Garrett Wilson reached the 100-reception plateau for the first time in his NFL career, but the third-year receiver believes he should have done more for the Jets this season.
Wilson's personal milestone did nothing to ease the agony of the Jets' 5-12 season, and certainly not the franchise's 14th consecutive year of missing the playoffs.
“I’m sure it will. [meaningful] After I finished playing, a long time ago, I had 100, but I needed about 130 or 120 to do what I wanted to do. [this season]'' Wilson said after Sunday's 35-20 season-ending win over the Dolphins. “I put some on the floor, dropped some, I didn’t play my best ball.
“So I'm sure I'll look back in the future and think it wasn't that bad, but at the end of the day, it was okay, it was cool.”
Wilson, 24, had 51 in four receptions despite becoming essentially the No. 2 option after acquiring Davante Adams, Aaron Rodgers' longtime favorite target, from the Raiders in October. He finished with a career-high 101 catches, 1,104 yards, and seven touchdowns.
Wilson, along with fellow 2022 top-10 player Sauce Gardner, is eligible for a contract extension this summer, and when asked if he felt he had established himself as an important part of the organization, Wilson responded, “Yes, I feel that way. ” he answered. future.
The Ohio State product missed just one game in three seasons with the Jets, averaging 93 catches and 1,083 yards per year.
Still, the team has a 19-32 record since Wilson was drafted, and those losses are weighing on him.
“Honestly, the only way forward is up, and that's been the case for the last three years,” Wilson told the Post after the media scrum. “So that's all I really want to say. I'm not going to talk about it too much right now, but to be honest, the only direction we can go in the future is up.”
Wilson, who officially had just five drops this season, added that it “feels great” to end a roller coaster season with a win.

“This is how you want to do it. Obviously it wasn't what we wanted all season, but you want to finish this way. You feel good about it,” Wilson said. “I can’t help but wonder why we didn’t do this from week one.
“But to make it happen in the final game, this is the first game of 2025, so this is what we want to do. [the year] It was the right way to do it, and we did it. ”
