Jets hire former Vikings GM Rick Spielman in front office overhaul

New Orleans – Rick Spielman is particular about the Jets.

The former Vikings general manager who helped search for the Jets' new general manager and head coach has been hired as a senior football advisor by the Jets, he announced. CBS Sports' “First Pick: NFL Draft Podcast.”

“What I'm doing, I'm going to help with Aaron Glenn in a way that I can do with my new general manager, Darren Moogie,” Spielman said. “Now my biggest project is about to rebuild the football management aspect of things. So there are a lot of changes going on there, but I think they'll call me and go ahead and go ahead I feel an honored privilege to ask me to be part of it.”

Spielman helped Jets owner Woody Johnson with former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum as part of the 33rd team.

Spielman has a link to Moogie through Broncos GM George Patong, who served as Spielman's assistant in Minnesota. Moosie then worked as Patong's assistant in Denver.

Spielman speaks up in the organization, but he makes it clear that he is not the person to call the shot.

“Aaron Glenn and Darren Moogie are the ultimate decision makers,” he said. “I'm just there as their soundboard to help them and support them in some way.”

Spillman, 62, was a Vikings GM from 2012 to 2021. He also served as Dolphin GM in 2004.

After the search process was over, there were rumors that Spielman and Tannenbaum could join the jet plane. Some GM candidates were concerned about it as a possibility.

Maugie may feel happy with Spielman because of her connection through Patong.
