Jets hiring Steve Wilks as defensive coordinator on Aaron Glenn’s staff

Aaron Glenn told everyone to attach a seat belt during the introduction press conference. Now we are starting to find who is driving Jetsbus with him.

Jets has confirmed that Steve Wilks and Chris Banjo as a new defensive coordinator and Chris Banjo as a special team coordinator.

Wilks, a former head coach of Cardinals, has been considered a person who likes to work since Glen was hired.

Banjo has been a Bronkos assistant special team coach for the past two years.

55 -year -old Wilks is a veteran coordinator of Panthers, Browns, and 49ers.

He spent one season as a Cardinal head coach in 2018 and served as a provisional coach in Carolina in 2022.

Wilks finally worked as a 49ERS defensive coordinator in 2023, but was fired one season.

He quit the league last year. In the five seasons as a coordinator or head coach, Wilks had only 49ers in 2023, both of which were the top 10, with only the top 10 defense or points.

Wilks is an important employment, as Glenn said on Monday that he would never call a defense play. Wilks can help Glenn as a new head coach with his experience in his work.

The 34 -year -old banjo had a 10 -year player in NFL, overlapping with Glen and Saint since 2016-18, when Glen was a defensive back coach.

Jets did not need to hire a special team coordinator since 2016, when Brant Boyer worked.

Wilks and banjo are the first large -scale adoption by Glenn.

The new Jets coach is working on gathering coaching staff with the new general manager Darren Mouggy. They are busy at work and are trying to find an assistant coach to re -form a jet under Glen.

Glen is almost completely completely new staff. Many of Jets coaches under Robert Saleha said they had already landed or did not return.

According to the sources, Wide Recever Sean Jefferson coaches and game coordinators Todd Downing are the only high -level members of Sale staff.

Glen said that the key to changing the culture on Monday was related to those hired to work for Jets.

“I can stand in front of a male group and give as many Laura speeches as possible, but culture is to acquire people and the appropriate people in the building,” Glen said. “The turn around was very fast, as I saw what Bill Palcell did, so it was very fast.”

The aggressive coordinator feels like Glen's most important employment, and the Lions Pass Game Coordinator Tanner Elgussand has emerged as a favorite to get a job.

The 42 -year -old Ergussand was considered a replacement for Ben Johnson as a Lions attack coordinator, but Detroit hired a former Jets attack coordinator John Morton.

Ergosstand has cooperated with Detroit Glen since 2021. Before that, he worked under the university's Jim Harboro.

It seems that Jets hire Rams' tight end coach and pass the game coordinator Nick Rayfish.

When Glen first got a job, he was a hot name, but he interviewed Buccaniars and Texans for aggressive coordinators, but he was not yet Jets.

According to the NFL network, Jets hired Lions's tight end coach Steve Hyden as a new attack line coach.

Heiden played tight ends over 11 seasons with charger and browns NFL. He has taught Detroit's tight end for the past two years.

Heiden was not an aggressive line coach, but he was a Cardinals assistant line coach in 2018.

The NFL Network also reported that Jets had also demanded an interview with David Bluff, a coach of the Quarter back assistant quarterback for the quota back coach job.

Jets also interviewed a former Titan defensive passing game coordinator and a cornback Chris Harris coach for the work of a defensive coordinator.

The sources have shown that Harris can become a protective back coach under Willks.
