Jets hopeful for Duane Brown’s return despite absence from practice

The Jets hope starting left tackle Duane Brown can play Sunday despite not practicing all week.

The 38-year-old offensive lineman did not participate in any of the team’s three practices due to a hip injury.

He was listed as questionable to play against the Patriots at MetLife Stadium.

Head coach Robert Saleh said: “We’re still happy that he’s available for Sunday, but he’s going over some things with the doctors.” “I’m not worried about him being a veteran and him not even practicing and still showing up to play.”

Saleh said the Jets have a plan in place if Brown is unable to go, but declined to reveal it.

Those plans do not include moving right tackle Mekhi Becton to left tackle.

If Brown does not play, it seems likely that one of the two reserve offensive tackles, Billy Turner or Max Mitchell, will start at left tackle.

The offensive line was a big issue against the Cowboys.

According to NFL NextGenestats, quarterback Zach Wilson was pressured on 16 of 30 pass plays, and the Jets ran for just 64 yards on 16 carries.

Now, that same unit has barely practiced together in training camp and hasn’t taken any time to practice together between games due to various injuries.

“Continuity is always important and you want to keep your guys together, but that’s just not the way this league works. That’s why we always move players up and down the line and work different combinations during OTAs and training camp. ,” Saleh said. “In the match, it has to be like this.” [have] In order to adjust on the fly and communicate with a variety of people, we have to constantly practice and imagine the worst-case scenario, but we also need to make sure that the men are prepared to deal with it. So we prepared for it, but it’s not ideal by any means. You want to keep using the same players all year round, but you just have to go with what you’re given. ”

Starting safety Tony Adams (hamstring) missed the game.

Adrian Amos and Ashtyn Davis will replace him. … Kicker Greg Zuerlein (groin) practiced fully for the first time this week and is questionable.

He missed last Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys. Defensive lineman John Franklin Myers (hip) is also questionable. …Offensive lineman Wes Schweitzer (concussion) is out.
