Jets may have to reopen old playbook for upgrading roster on cheap

Former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum helped Jets owner Woody Johnson recruit new general manager Darren Moozy and head coach Aaron Glenn. Now Mougey and Glenn need to get the page from Tannenbaum's Playbook.

In 2009, Tannenbaum took advantage of former coach Eric Mangini's familiarity with the Jets' roster and made two deals with Mangini, who was then the Browns coach. Mangini's affinity for certain players reduced draft pick compensation. The Jets were asked to select quarterback Mark Sanchez by moving from 17th to 5th in the NFL Draft and first abandoned in the trade to acquire wide receiver Blayon Edwards in October 2009.

The Jets currently have two former head coaches who are with the other teams rather than one from last season. Robert Sale is currently the 49ers defensive coordinator and interim coach for 12 games Jeff Ulbric is the Falcons defensive coordinator.

Can Mougey use Jets Defense players who have affinity to get something with Saleh and/or Ulbrich at a lower draft capital cost?
