Mike Williams barely broke a sweat in his Jets debut.
The receiver continues to work his way back from major knee surgery he underwent last October, logging just nine snaps and zero targets in Monday night's loss to the 49ers.
The Jets have said they will develop Williams slowly, and they are clearly committed to that patient approach.
“I was told I'm going to be limited for the first couple of games,” Williams told The Post on Thursday. “I'm going to gradually get better, which is expected.”
Williams was signed in the offseason to serve as a backup to No. 1 receiver Garrett Wilson.
The 29-year-old wide receiver has two 1,000-plus yard seasons under his belt and in his final full season in 2022, he had 63 catches for 895 yards and four touchdowns.
When asked about Williams' lack of use, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett said it was because the offense didn't stay on the field long enough.
“We need to get our offense going on third down and make sure we don't fumble our offense on third down and get everybody involved,” Hackett said.
Williams figures to see a slight increase in playing time on Sunday against the Titans.
At the very least, he was happy to get a little run around in the opening round.
“I hadn't been on the field for about a year,” Williams said. “It was good to be out there again.”
Connor McGovern was all smiles on Thursday.
The veteran offensive lineman is back where he belongs.
The Jets signed McGovern to their practice squad on Wednesday.
McGovern, 31, appeared in seven games for the Jets last season but was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 31 with a dislocated left patella and a torn MCL.
He has been with the team since 2020 and has played in 55 games during that time.
McGovern was content to give up, but the Jets came calling and he couldn't turn them down.
“I really missed everybody and I missed being around the building and being in this organization,” McGovern said. “When they gave me the opportunity to come back, I was like, 'Yeah, I'm coming back.'”
“When I got injured, I called my wife and said, 'That's it. I'm retiring.' My agent said, 'No, no, there's a place for you somewhere. Get healthy and come back and be ready for your opportunity.' When this opportunity came up, I was excited. This is a special place, a special organization. I feel like this is my team and I'm happy to be back.”
Cornerbacks DJ Reed (knee) and Michael Carter II (ankle) remained limited in Thursday's practice.
Defensive lineman Michael Clemons (triceps) and offensive tackle Tyron Smith (rest) were also limited. Javon Kinlaw (personal reasons) did not practice.
