Jets receive favorable outcome as Justin Fields' injury details emerge after cart incident

Justin Fields Avoids Jets Quarterback Curse Despite Teammate Injuries

Justin Fields seems to have sidestepped the infamous Jets quarterback curse, although not all his teammates fared as well.

Hata is dealing with a dislocated toe on his right foot and is now considered day-to-day following medical assessments, according to the Jets.

It’s anticipated that the Jets’ starters will make a return before Week 1, which is a positive update after Fields raised concerns by leaving Thursday’s practice early.

This was Fields’ second practice with the team after signing a hefty two-year deal worth $40 million in the offseason.

The timeline for his return remains unclear, which is a bit worrying since they’re trying to grasp new NFL strategies under new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand.

At 26, Fields is recognized as one of the top running quarterbacks in the league, showcasing star potential during his time with both the Bears and Steelers over five seasons.

In Fields’ absence, veteran Tyrod Taylor has stepped up to take the first-team snaps.

“Tyrod has been around for 14 years, so his leadership is invaluable to us,” coach Aaron Glenn commented. “The crucial part is that if something happens to Justin, I genuinely don’t think there’s a drop-off in our game plan.”

“Their skill sets are quite similar,” he continued. “That’s been attractive to us, and having played against him myself, I know he’s someone that commands attention.”

The injury occurred during the second play of an 11-on-11 drill, with Fields stepping off the field and not putting weight on his right leg, causing alarm about potential serious damage.

Fields was then carted off, which raised eyebrows. He is clearly the starter for the Jets this season—different circumstances compared to last year when he was replaced by Russell Wilson after struggling with calf tension during Steelers training camp.

“Honestly, I don’t think there’s much to worry about,” Fields remarked about his situation with the Jets.

“Like I mentioned last year, it’s a bit of an odd position, but you just focus on getting better and leading the team every day. That’s what matters most.”

The Jets are slated to kick off their season on September 7th at MetLife Stadium against the Steelers and their former teammate Aaron Rodgers.
