Jets Part Ways with Isaiah Williams
The Jets have decided to release Isaiah Williams following a tough outing where he struggled during the second half kickoff against the Dolphins, including a call for a fair catch on his own three-yard line.
This was not the first misstep for Williams this season; he had already fumbled earlier while returning a kick. In a similar move, the Jets cut Xavier Gipson after week one, signaling a focus on better performances in the return game.
On Friday, Williams reflected on his recent challenges, expressing disappointment at letting the team down. “I really dislike when I make mistakes that hurt the team,” he shared. “But I’ve learned a lot from this, and personally, I feel I’ve grown. It’s about moving on from setbacks.”
In discussing further mishaps, Williams indicated that he was eager to improve his performance. “I’m trying to play more confidently after my last mistake,” he noted, highlighting the importance of not letting errors linger in his mind.
He also mentioned being cautious about decisions made near the end zone. “I didn’t feel comfortable at the ten-yard line,” he admitted, recounting a moment where he became aware of an oncoming player only due to the crowd’s reaction. “Sometimes, you just rely on your instincts.”
In other team updates, the Jets ruled out RB/KR Kene Nwangwu due to a hamstring injury on Saturday and signed LB Mykal Walker from the practice squad. Additionally, they elevated S Dean Clark and RB Avery Williams, with Avery likely taking over kick return duties.
LB Jamien Sherwood received a fine of $17,389 for an illegal hit on an unprotected player during the Dolphins game.
As for season highlights, Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson has made a significant impact with 34 receptions, ranking him among the top performers in the league.
Lastly, Jets rookie CB Azureye’h Thomas is set to face off against his brother, Juanyeh Thomas, who plays safety for the Cowboys, adding a personal touch to the upcoming match.
