LONDON — You can't blame penalties for this week's rhythm.
The Jets had no false starts this week compared to five last week, but the penalty issue turned into a secondary issue.
Cornerbacks Sauce Gardner (3) and DJ Reed (2) combined for five penalties, including a series of three straight that led to the Vikings' only offensive touchdown. is also included.
The decision was questionable, and Jets coach Robert Saleh was not satisfied with the response from officials.
“There was also a DJ penalty that I thought was a legitimate penalty, but it was probably illegal contact and holding, not DPI,” Saleh said. “But I don't understand the rest. I need some explanation from the NFL officiating team.”
Gardner was penalized for illegal contact, holding and pass interference.
Reed was called twice for pass interference.
“PI called me over Justin's shoulder. [Jefferson]. I was just chest to chest and trying to look back at the ball. He pushed me away,” Gardner said. “The one above is [Jordan] Addison, I guess you couldn't catch the ball anyway. That's what happened.
“The first contact, the illegal contact, I thought he went outside and tried to come back inside. He just slid to the outside and played on top of the route. I think that was illegal contact as well. ”
Jets QB Aaron Rodgers said he suffered a lower ankle sprain in the third quarter.
Rodgers was hit by Vikings linebacker Jihad Ward and twisted awkwardly with several players at his feet.
Rodgers was slow to get up and off the field.
As Rodgers was headed to the blue medical tent, a rough-the-kicker penalty gave the Jets another down and Rodgers ran onto the field.
He didn't miss a play, but he clearly favored his left foot.
“I'm definitely beat up,” said Rodgers, who was on the injury report this week with a knee injury. “I got my foot stuck in that mountain. It looks like it's just a sprained ankle.”
With the Jets trailing 10-0 in the second quarter, Saleh scored on a fourth-and-2 from the Vikings' own 26-yard line.
Braylon Allen was stuck, and the Jets finished the close game scoreless.
“I feel like I have to be able to earn it,” Saleh said. “We weren't moving the ball very well. We were trying to be aggressive and see if we could get seven points.”
CB Michael Carter II injured his hamstring during pregame warmups.
He tried to play, but it only lasted a few plays.
Carter called it an “adjustment,” but it was a slow move in the postgame locker room.
WR Malachi Coley, the team's third-round pick, was a healthy scratch Sunday.
