Is this the Most Exciting NFL Trade Deadline Ever? | Don’t @ Me w/ Dan Dakich
“I think that move’s pretty good. The Quenton Nelson move, I’m not so sure about. I mean, he’s a guard, and he’s hitting 30. They have to pay him. And then there’s Josh Downs wanting out; if Jonathan Taylor gets traded, well, that could change things. But honestly, I usually think the NFL trade deadline is much ado about nothing. But this year feels a bit different.”
This New York Jets star will reportedly stick around for now.
The struggling 2-5 Jets have sparked interest in wide receiver Garrett Wilson, yet sources indicate that there is “no way” the Jets will let Wilson go, according to ESPN.
Last year, the Jets made waves at the trade deadline by trading star cornerback Sauce Gardner and standout defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, securing a stash of picks that included three first-round selections. In theory, trading Wilson could yield a similar bounty, but the Jets really need to focus on keeping their core players instead of trading them away for future prospects if they want to become competitive again.
Jets ownership reportedly values the 26-year-old receiver highly and has no intentions of trading him, as Wilson himself has expressed a desire to remain in New York.
“I want to be here, man,” Wilson told reporters recently. “I want to win games, and that’s what we’ve been missing. I love it here. But, to be honest, do I love it more than I love winning? Nah, not really, but I’m hopeful.”
Wilson, who signed a four-year, $130 million extension 15 months ago running through 2030, further complicates any trade discussions.
“I’ve never been the most optimistic guy, but I’ve found a way to stay positive for the last few years. That’s why these losses hurt a little more each week.”
Despite inconsistent quarterback play during his time with the Jets since being drafted 10th overall in 2022, Wilson has still managed to be productive. In seven games this season, he has recorded 37 catches for 444 yards and three touchdowns.
He aims to continue building on these stats while hopefully staying with the Jets for the remainder of the season and beyond.
