Jets to interview Jon Robinson, ESPN’s Louis Riddick for GM job

Let's start the interview.

The Jets will begin interviews this week and take the next step in finding a new general manager, officials confirmed. The first known candidates are former Titans GM Jon Robinson and ESPN analyst Louis Riddick.

Robinson will interview this week, while Riddick's interview could come later.

The Jets can interview candidates who are not currently working for an NFL team. Those currently employed by the team will be required to interview after the season.

Amid this disappointing season, the Jets fired coach Robert Saleh on October 8th and general manager Joe Douglas on November 19th.

The Jets aren't going to hire a GM first and then a coach. They hired a No. 33 team led by former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum and former Vikings GM Rick Spielman to help search for two positions.

Robinson, 48, served as the Titans' general manager from 2016 to 2022. The Titans went 66-43, never losing, and reached the playoffs four times during his tenure with the team. Tennessee had consecutive last place finishes before his arrival.

The Titans waived him in December 2022, before the end of the season. Many point to trading star wide receiver AJ Brown to the Eagles during the 2022 draft as one of the biggest mistakes he made and a factor that led to his firing several months later. did. Interestingly, Robinson worked with coach Mike Vrabel, one of Tennessee's top coaching candidates this season.

Robinson began his career as a scout for the Patriots, and during his early years in the NBA drafted such big hits as Derrick Henry, Kevin Byard, Jack Conklin, Jeffery Simmons, and Brown. But then they made some bad picks, including selecting offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson in the first round of the 2020 draft. Wilson attended the Titans game, but was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. He's out of the league. The following year, Robinson took Caleb Farley at No. 22, despite Farley's dodgy medical history. Farley struggled to stay healthy, but played in 12 games in two years at Tennessee and is now with the Panthers.

Riddick, 55, has had several general manager opening interviews in recent years, including with the Giants in 2017 before hiring Dave Gettleman. Before joining ESPN as an analyst, Riddick worked in the front offices of the Eagles and Commanders. He played seven seasons in the NFL.

ESPN first reported Robinson and Riddick as candidates for the Jets.
