Jets trade up, pick receiver Malachi Corley in third round of NFL draft

One night after giving Aaron Rodgers more protection, the Jets acquired a playmaker.

The Jets drafted wide receiver Malachi Coley from Western Kentucky after trading up to the first pick in the third round on Friday night in Detroit.

Corey played as a slot receiver in college and is likely to join the Jets.

The 5-foot-10, 207-pounder had 259 receptions for 3,033 yards and 29 touchdowns for the Hilltoppers.

Corey is known as the “YAC King” as he averaged 9.2 yards after the catch over the past two seasons.

The Jets acquired Corey in a trade with the Panthers, moving up from the 72nd pick to the 65th pick, the first pick of the third round.

The Jets traded the 157th pick and the 72nd pick in the fifth round to Carolina in exchange for the 65th pick.

Coley joins a wide receiver room led by Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams but lacking a solid No. 3 option.

He could be that player now.
