Jets want more for Garrett Wilson as frustration boils over

The Jets would like to get the fourth-most-targeted receiver in the NFL more involved in the offense.

It may sound a little paradoxical, but the Jets will get enough touches for many alpha players in an underperforming offense and could be here long after the Aaron Rodgers-Davante Adams partnership is gone. Walking the fine line between satisfying Garrett Wilson, who has sex with him. town.

Through the final eight minutes of Sunday's 19-9 loss to the Rams, Wilson had just three targets. At that time, the Jets called more than twice as many passes (44) as they allowed runs (19).

“At the end of the day, we have to find a way to get Garrett the ball more often,” interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said Monday. “He's one of the best players on our team — if not one of the best players in this league, especially one of the best at his position. This progress has been great from a coverage standpoint. And for a variety of reasons, (Rodgers) is going to pull Garrett away. But at the same time, we've got to make sure we find a way to get him the ball.”

Wilson's 141 targets are fewer than the Giants' Malik Nabors (154), the Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb (152) and the Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase (146).

He ranks ninth in receptions (90) and 12th in receiving yards (987). This indicates that there appears to be a communication breakdown within the route as the goals are not leading to the same level of production.

Wilson said after the game, “I want to be involved and I want to influence the game,” but if “people look at it differently,” that's out of his control.

The Jets could control Wilson's future through the 2027 season (fourth year of his rookie contract, optional fifth year, franchise tag), but he will be eligible for a contract extension for the first time this offseason.

Ulbrich, who likely won't be with the Jets next season, understands Wilson's frustration.

“If you weren't annoyed, I think it was bothering me to some extent,” Ulbrich said. “I think he’s just one of those ultimate competitors for the ball, not for any selfish reason, but from the standpoint that he knows that with the ball in his hands, he can help the team win.”
