Long Island Nurse Sues Hospital Over Salary Cut Following Pro-Israel Post

A Jewish nurse in Long Island has filed a lawsuit against Nu Langone Hospital in Mineola, claiming her supervisor reduced her salary after she publicly supported Israel. Staff nurse Levia Erich shared her thoughts on Instagram after the tragic October 7 attack by Hamas, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people.

“You either stand with Israel or terrorism,” the 27-year-old Ehrlich wrote, accompanied by two symbols.

She made a follow-up post that same day, featuring a photo of an Israeli soldier—who, interestingly enough, was her former high school classmate—whom Hamas had deceived. This detail was included in her court documents.

About a month later, a representative from the hospital confronted her. It was apparently brought to their attention that someone had complained about her post, labeling it as “prejudice and hatred,” according to her application filed in Brooklyn federal court.

By December, she was summoned once again, given a written warning, and told she needed to issue an apology, following “prescription language” which she claims included phrases like “innocent people from both Israel and Palestine.”

The situation escalated when, in January, the hospital’s management informed her that her social media activity would cost her a $6,000 salary increase that had been awarded just a month prior to the attack, and demanded repayment of that amount.

Ehrlich expressed that she was subjected to discriminatory treatment, emphasizing that her views were not driven by hatred or bias. She is now seeking unspecified damages.

Nyu Langone has chosen not to comment on the ongoing lawsuit.
