The group could be seen holding signs that read “Fighting the Nazis, not students,” “Prohibiting Muslims,” and “Jews for Palestinian Freedom” before the rally broke up.

“If you come for one of us, you say you're facing us all,” an angry protester cried out in the group's live X-feed.

“Universities and universities must stop observing in advance,” the anti-Israel protester added. “Colombia and all other universities must take proactive steps to protect students. We ask that all universities protect their freedom of speech, collective protests and protect their students.”

The recent gathering continues with an influx of protesters and mobs calling for Halil's release in Lower Manhattan earlier this week.

President Donald Trump's federal immigration agent detained Halil in New York City on Saturday, becoming the face of crackdowns on foreign anti-Semitism on university campuses.

Khalil's green card could potentially withdraw as he leads a radical organization called Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD), which advocates the same message Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists preach to their supporters. The group also has relationships with both terrorist groups, Posts.

“We are Westerners fighting for the complete eradication of Western civilization,” Cuad said in an Instagram post.

Attempts to deport Khalil were temporarily suspended by a judge on Monday.

Khalil, 29, had Palestinian parents, and he was born and raised in Syria. In 2022 he traveled to the US on a student visa and attended Columbia for his graduate studies. The following year, in 2023, Halil married a bride who was a citizen of the United States. He got his green card last year AP News.

Social media users have used X to express their thoughts on recent confusion, including Marjorie Taylor Green (MTG), the president of the Georgia GOP.

Can the government deport green card holders?

yes. Green card holders are subject to deportation, but it is the government's responsibility to demonstrate deportation.

According to Stephen Yalerore, a retired professor at Cornell Law School and an immigration law expert, reasons for deportation can include convictions for a variety of crimes, including murder, assault, robbery, tax fraud, domestic abuse and illegal firearm possession. Furthermore, the government does not require criminal convictions to file deportation charges against permanent residents who provide material support to terrorist organizations.

“Material support for immigration purposes is much broader than the term's criminal definition. For example, people are deported, even under obsession, simply to provide a bowl of water or rice to guerrilla groups,” says Yale-Loehr.
