An escalator fire caused chaos at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday morning, filling the terminal with smoke and forcing many travelers to be evacuated.
The FDNY told The Post that the fire broke out inside Terminal 8 around 7 a.m. and the building was engulfed in smoke.
Chaotic footage shared on the Citizen app showed crowds of passengers with luggage crowding around the airport’s entrances and exits, while police and firefighters rushed to the terminal as fire alarms rang.
Other footage shared on X shows the plane being blocked from taking off on the runway.
A video shared by X-user Kiko_Alvarez showed several fire engines and other emergency vehicles arriving at the airport terminal with lights flashing.
Fire officials said evacuations were triggered due to smoke conditions inside the terminal.
No injuries were reported, authorities said.
Fire officials said operations at the airport have since resumed.
The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
