Jack Schlossberg Launches Congressional Campaign
Another member from the Kennedy family is stepping into the political arena, this time aiming for a congressional seat. Jack Schlossberg, grandson of the late President John F. Kennedy, has declared his intention to run for Congress, seeking to fill the position of retiring Democratic Congressman Jerry Nadler from New York.
Schlossberg gained traction on social media, notably TikTok. There, he has leveraged his family’s legacy, often critiquing figures like Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., with both humor and seriousness.
“If we control Congress, there’s nothing we can’t do,” he expressed in a recent interview.
In what seems to be a competitive primary, Schlossberg will face off against state Representative Micah Lasher and nonprofit CEO Liam Elkind. All three are vying for a chance to represent New York’s 12th Congressional District, known for being heavily Democratic and having one of the highest income rates nationwide.
On his campaign website, Schlossberg mentioned he is motivated by a desire for New York’s voice to be strongly represented in Washington, stating, “the best parts of the greatest city on earth need to be heard loud and clear.”
As he embarks on this journey, Schlossberg highlighted the urgency for Democrats to reclaim a House majority. Currently, Republicans hold a slim edge, exacerbated by two Democratic seats becoming vacant due to recent deaths. “We deserve better and we can do better,” he insisted, stressing the need for the party to take back control of the House.
It’s important to note that Schlossberg, while following in the footsteps of his famous family, is running in a solidly Democratic district, meaning his election is unlikely to shift the partisan balance in the House.
“Once you take control of Congress, there’s nothing you can’t do. Without that, we are powerless for a third term,” Schlossberg said, emphasizing his commitment to action.
In his closing remarks, he introduced himself by saying, “My name is Jack Schlossberg. I’m running for Congress to represent New York’s 12th Congressional District, where I was born and raised.”
