Jill Biden defended President Biden’s reelection bid and said she would be “fully committed” to supporting her husband’s 2024 presidential bid.
“President Biden wakes up every morning ready to work for you,” the first lady said Monday during a stop in Wilmington, North Carolina, to kick off a campaign event targeting veterans and military families.
“This election is about you,” she said.
“There’s a lot of talk about this race, but Joe has made it clear he’s going to fight it hard,” Biden continued, as the crowd cheered, “Four more years!”
“That’s a decision he’s made, and I fully support him, just as he’s always supported me throughout my career,” exclaimed Biden, a professor at Northern Virginia Community College.
Jill Biden’s comments came after last month’s “disastrous” debate between her and former President Trump in Atlanta, which prompted calls from political opponents and allies alike for her to drop out of the presidential race.
The first lady has faced criticism for her husband’s decision to continue his campaign, with critics alleging she put “what was best for herself above the health of her husband and the safety and security of the nation as a whole.”
“The president has many political and policy advisers. [Jill Biden’s] “She has a key role to play,” Elizabeth Alexander, a spokeswoman for the first lady, told ITK last week.
During his speech in Wilmington, Biden repeatedly sought to contrast the president’s record on military issues with that of Trump’s.
“We know what kind of person Donald Trump was as commander in chief. He ignored our military and undermined American leadership in the world. This time around, it could be even worse. He has said he wants to be a dictator from day one,” Biden said at the event.
“Donald Trump wakes up every morning thinking about only one person: himself,” she said.
