Jill Biden to Publish Memoir This Summer

Jill Biden, the former first lady, has shared plans to release a memoir this summer that will delve into her experiences in the White House. The book will reflect on her husband Joe Biden’s presidency and his choice not to run for reelection.

In a video on Instagram, she expressed:

“I served as First Lady at a unique time in our nation’s history, during a pandemic and a period of unrest. Those days tested our resilience, compassion, and trust in each other, but we persevered. It has been the honor of my life to serve in the historic East Wing. This memoir is a record of my time as First Lady. Some of this story has been told, but not all. In View from the East Wing, I will share both uplifting moments and challenges. We will also look back on the significance of Joe’s unprecedented decision to not seek reelection and pass the torch. I reflect on what that meant for our family and for me personally throughout our time in public service. The book will be out on June 2nd. Let’s set the record straight.”

Reports had previously suggested that Joe and Jill Biden were considering a significant tell-all book deal, potentially worth $30 million, which would include insights from a diary Jill kept while in the White House. It’s expected that this memoir may give the Biden family’s view on key events while also facing scrutiny regarding Joe Biden’s health and decisions during the campaign.

Moreover, news indicated that former President Biden secured a $10 million advance for his own memoir with Hachette Book Group. The firm is still finalizing a release date. Comparatively, Barack and Michelle Obama had signed a deal for about $60 million in 2017, while Bill Clinton received $15 million for his memoir.

Jill Biden’s memoir arrives amid various publications from members of the Biden administration and other political figures linked to the 2024 election. Former Vice President Kamala Harris also announced her memoir, 107 Days, reflecting on her campaign after Biden withdrew. She described her writing process as candid and reflective, believing in the importance of sharing her insights for future progress.

Excerpts from Harris’s book revealed her internal conflicts, questioning whether she should have advised Biden to withdraw from the race earlier. She noted concerns regarding his age and the effects it had on his campaign performance but maintained that it wasn’t a matter of incompetence.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro publicly criticized Harris’s retelling of their encounters during her campaign, suggesting her comments were not accurate and displayed a lack of honesty.

In addition, former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has released her book, reflecting on Biden’s treatment by his party. She also stated she never observed any signs that raised concerns about Biden’s mental capacity.

As Jill Biden’s memoir is set to be unveiled, other projects related to first ladies are also gaining traction. For instance, a movie centered on Melania Trump recently topped the charts on Amazon Prime, demonstrating significant interest in stories related to the past administrations.
