Jill Biden: Relationship with Pelosi 'on my mind a lot lately'

First Lady Jill Biden said she is “thinking a lot” about her decades-long relationship with former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) as she prepares to leave the White House.

in long profile Jill Biden, published in The Washington Post on Wednesday, said she was “disappointed” by Pelosi's role in forcing President Biden out of the presidential race.

“That's been on my mind a lot lately,” she added. “We've been friends for 50 years. … It's a shame.”

Following Biden's disastrous debate against Trump in July, Pelosi appeared on MSNBC's “Morning Joe” and said, “It's up to the president to decide whether or not to run.” Despite remaining the Democratic nominee, her comments were widely interpreted as a signal that he should consider resigning.

The newspaper reported that Jill Biden spoke to her close friend Mary Doody about the pressure the president was under at the time from Democrats.

“It was awful. It was mean. It was disrespectful,” Doody told the Post. “She talked about it a lot. I know I'm biased, but Joe Biden didn't deserve that.”

Jill Biden also mentioned recent memorable moments during the presidential transition in an interview with the Post.

She recalled a brief exchange in December when she sat next to President-elect Trump at the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. According to the first lady, President Trump said, “I had a nice meeting with your husband in the Oval Office.''

Jill recalled telling Trump at the time, “Yes.” “Because you both talk a lot.”

Jill Biden emphasized the importance of respecting the system in explaining why she spoke to President Trump, who has mocked her family for months.

“Joe and I respect our institutions and traditions, and it's very important to me that that continues,” she said.

“What's the point in hating?” she added.

Jill Biden told the Post that she had invited first lady Melania Trump to tea at the White House, which is a tradition for first ladies during presidential transitions, but that the first lady declined. Ta.

Biden said he instead sent Melania Trump a note of congratulations and offered support in her return to the White House.

Jill Biden said she didn't hear from the incoming first lady until Melania Trump thanked her at former President Carter's funeral.
