Jill Biden says husband is ‘one of the most effective presidents’ in modern history ‘because of’ his age

First Lady Jill Biden launched a seniors’ Biden-Harris campaign on Thursday, arguing that President Biden’s age is an asset, not a liability.

“This election is certainly not about age,” the first lady said at a campaign event in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Pickleball and Bingo Night To stimulate voting among older voters.

“Joe and that guy are essentially the same age. Don’t be fooled,” she added. “Joe is not one of the most effective presidents in our lifetime, despite his age, but because of his age.”

The ages of both presidential candidates have become a national topic of conversation — Biden is 81 and Trump just turned 78 — but Biden’s history of gaffes and declining memory have cast a harsh light on his mental capacity as he ages, especially since Special Counsel Robert Hur described him as a “compassionate, well-meaning older man with a frail memory.”

“This election isn’t about age. Donald Trump is 78, Joe is 81. They’re basically the same age,” she told her co-hosts on “The View” last month, “but it’s about character. This election is about character.”

“So you have two choices. You have my husband, Joe, who you all know. He’s loyal, he’s strong, he’s solid, he’s a leader. He’s smart, he’s energetic. Or chaos,” the first lady said.

“His age is an advantage,” Jill Biden said in January.

“I see Joe every day. I see him out and about and traveling all around this country. I see his vitality, his energy, his passion every day,” she said.

“He’s wise. He has wisdom. He has experience. He’s known every leader on the world stage. He’s lived history. He knows history. His decisions are thoughtful. He’s the right person for the job at this moment in history,” the first lady said.

An ABC News/Ipsos poll in February found that 86% of Americans said Biden is too old to serve another term as president, while 62% said the same about Trump.
