Jill Biden to attend reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris

First lady Jill Biden will travel to Paris on Saturday for the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral, his office announced Tuesday.

She has already been abroad, traveling from Doha, Qatar, to Paris within the day, and is scheduled to return to Washington on Sunday.

President-elect Trump is also scheduled to attend a reopening ceremony in Paris on Saturday, praising French President Emmanuel Macron's efforts to restore the cathedral in an announcement of his visit.

“President Emmanuel Macron has done a great job of restoring Notre Dame Cathedral to its full level of glory, which is even more impressive,” he wrote on Truth Social. “It's going to be a very special day for everyone!”

The first lady and President Trump were recently together at the White House when the president-elect met with President Biden last month as part of the presidential transition process.

Notre Dame Cathedral suffered a devastating fire in the spring of 2019 that caused the spire and wooden latticework of the roof to collapse. According to Notre Dame Cathedral's website,reopening ceremonynext Saturday and Sunday.

The reopening is part of Biden's multi-day trip, during which she plans to focus on her work as first lady before leaving office in January.

The first lady is scheduled to leave for Italy on Tuesday to visit Sigonella Naval Air Base in Catania as part of an initiative for military families. She will then head to Abu Dhabi on Wednesday for a Biden Cancer Moonshot Plan visit, and to Doha on Thursday for a women's health initiative.
