Jim Carrey Reunites with Taylor Momsen After 25 Years

It’s… um… the Grinch!

Jim Carrey had a heartfelt reunion with his former co-star Taylor Momsen from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony this past Saturday. Can you believe it’s been 25 years since that classic hit the screens?

Carrey, now 63, and Momsen, 32, found themselves posing for photos at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Hall of Fame when Carrey shared a surprising tidbit.

“I haven’t seen him since the Grinch,” Carrey told reporters, underscoring how long it’s been. “25 years!” Momsen chimed in, clearly just as amazed.

Interestingly, Momsen revealed she had no idea what Carrey looked like during the filming. With all that green makeup and the Grinch costume, she just didn’t recognize him at all. “Jim Carrey is the Grinch,” she stated recently. “I didn’t know who Jim was until the premiere, and someone pointed him out to me. It was a revelation!”

She also mentioned that contrary to what you might think, she was never frightened of Carrey in that role. “People always ask if I was scared of the Grinch. Lots of kids were, I think. But he was never scary to me. He was always just Jim, always in makeup.” It’s kind of sweet, really, how her childhood perspective shaped her experience.

“He was very protective of me,” she added. “So kind, so funny, so full of life.” It’s nice to hear that behind the scenes, he was such a positive influence.

Carrey has reflected on his time as the Grinch, describing it as “one of the lucky things in my life.” He expressed his gratitude for the film’s enduring popularity, mentioning how much he loves seeing it every holiday season. “It’s one of those Yule logs that people come to,” he noted.

Momsen has since transitioned from acting, moving on to a music career as the lead singer of The Pretty Reckless. At the ceremony, she shared the stage with Soundgarden, who were also being honored that night.

She joined the surviving members of the band, performing alongside drummer Matt Cameron, guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist Ben Shepherd, and original bassist Hiro Yamamoto. The event was known to feature an impressive setlist, with guest performances from Brandi Carlile and Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, among others.

Reflecting on his own journey, Carrey recalled meeting Soundgarden for the first time back in 1996 while hosting “Saturday Night Live!” He insisted on having them as a musical guest, mentioning how their music impacted him deeply. “They showered me with waves of electricity, like an audio baptism,” he recalled. “After the show, they handed me one of my most prized possessions, a Fender Telecaster that Chris Cornell played and signed.” It’s these personal memories that make these events so special.
