Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-South Carolina, endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race.
As Breitbart News reported on Sunday, Joe Biden made a historic decision not seen since Democrat Lyndon Baines Johnson refused to seek reelection in 1968.
“Serving as your president has been the honor of my life,” Biden said in a statement. “While I intended to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and our country that I step down and focus solely on fulfilling the duties of my presidency for the remainder of my term.”
Later, when Biden announced his support for Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s flag bearer, the Democratic Party immediately endorsed Biden and congratulated him on the decision. Clyburn praised Joe Biden as a good person and said that the decision to select Kamala Harris as vice president was one of the best.
“I have had the honor and privilege of calling President Joe Biden a friend for many years. When I endorsed then-candidate Biden in 2020, I knew I could find no one with greater integrity and commitment to the foundational principles that form the foundation of our great nation. He has used those principles to unite the American people through incredible challenges and uncharted territory,” Clyburn said.
He has promoted policies that address a wide range of issues, including inequities in our health care system, the cost of higher education, outdated roads and bridges, the gun violence epidemic, and access to affordable, high-speed broadband. President Biden has improved the lives of countless Americans through his selfless service, and I thank him for his unparalleled leadership.
“One of President Biden’s first decisions as a candidate was to select a running mate who he believed had the values and vision necessary to continue our work as a ‘More Perfect Union.’ I share his good judgment in selecting Vice President Harris to lead the country alongside him, and I am proud to follow his lead in endorsing her candidacy to succeed him as the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee,” he added.

Clyburn’s endorsement of Harris is significant given that he backed Joe Biden at a time when he was in a slump after losing several state primaries to Bernie Sanders.
