Jim Clyburn Expresses Confidence in Newsom's Presidential Bid

Clyburn Expresses Optimism for Newsom in 2028 Presidential Race

On Tuesday, South Carolina Democratic Representative Jim Clyburn shared his positive outlook regarding California Governor Gavin Newsom’s chances for the 2028 presidential election. During a Democratic Party event in South Carolina, Clyburn mentioned Newsom as one of the potential presidential candidates.

“That’s not a secret,” Clyburn stated to reporters post-event, expressing that he feels optimistic about Newsom’s prospects.

Clyburn is known for his influential role within the Democratic Party, especially highlighted by his support for former President Joe Biden leading to Biden’s victory in the South Carolina Democratic primary during the 2020 election.

Interestingly, while Newsom has hinted at a future campaign, he hasn’t formally declared his intentions regarding a presidential run or whether he would back Kamala Harris for the California Governor’s position in 2026. He remarked that it would depend on the decisions she makes.

Harris is reportedly considering whether to enter the race for governor or aim for the presidency again in 2028, although some party members have raised concerns about her potential candidacy for governor.

As of now, neither Clyburn’s nor Newsom’s offices have commented on these developments.
