Comedian Jim Gaffigan may be a lifelong Democrat, but that didn't stop him from completely obliterating his own party with an Al Smith dinner speech.
“President Biden cannot be here tonight. The DNC has confirmed that,” Gaffigan said to thunderous applause. “You know, this has been an interesting presidential campaign. Democrats have been telling us that Trump's re-election is a threat to democracy.”
“In fact, they were so concerned about this threat that they staged a coup, ousted the democratically elected incumbent and installed Kamala Harris,” he continued. “In other words, all her dreams have come true.”
Gaffigan's joke was so true that even Chuck Schumer laughed — and The Rubin Report's Dave Rubin was impressed.
“The whole point of comedy is that you can say something true, put a twist on it, make it laugh, and think about something. That's what good comedy is, isn't it? Through laughter, it makes someone think about something.” “You can,” Rubin says.
“If you run up to someone and tell them the truth, you might get punched in the face, but when Chuck Schumer laughs at a joke about the DNC carrying out a coup, it kind of teaches you something.” he continued.
Gaffigan's acknowledgment of the truth through his jokes reassured conservatives, but he didn't just go after Democrats.
“He made fun of Trump, he made fun of Republicans,” Rubin says. “Exactly a year ago, when I was talking to Joe Rogan about January 6th, it would be an understatement to say that he was in a state of Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
“This guy is certainly not a Trumper or a Republican or a conservative or anything, but here he is making fun of Democrats and the Democrats don't show up,” he added.
