Comedian Jim Gaffigan has revealed that people told him not to criticize Kamala Harris during the presidential campaign, saying it was a strategic mistake.
He commented that appear On the podcast “The Last Laugh” with Matt Wilstein.
“It's actually bad to take that approach. And in hindsight, I think that's how people feel.”
“What I found interesting about this election, maybe because it was so important, and maybe because it was such a short-lived election for Kamala, is that people are saying, 'Don't criticize her.' I guess it was something like that,” Gaffigan said.
“And what I'm saying is, it's actually a bad thing to take that approach. And in hindsight, I think people feel that way,” he said. added.
Gaffigan's comments echoed much of the disdain directed at Democrats and Harris herself after her fiasco while raising record billions of dollars in campaign contributions. Democrats lost the electoral and popular vote, lost control of the Senate, and were unable to overthrow Republican control of the House.
The comedian ignored advice to avoid criticizing Harris when she hosted the prestigious Al Smith Dinner in October during the campaign. Gaffigan skewered Harris for avoiding a dinner that raised millions of dollars for Catholic Charities, and criticized Democrats for electing Harris without holding a primary for voters to choose a candidate. However, he made a severe attack.
Gaffigan also said on the same podcast that he regrets alienating some Trump supporters with his comments about President-elect Donald Trump.
“I'm sorry that people think I'm criticizing people who support Trump. That was never my intention,” he said.
“I also acknowledge that there are true die-hard Trump fans who probably enjoyed my comedy, but they feel so passionately that they will never forgive me,” he said. added.
