John Harbaugh Fired by Baltimore Ravens
John Harbaugh’s time as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens ended unexpectedly on Tuesday, following the team’s final game of the season. Despite his impressive track record—highlighted by six AFC North titles, four appearances in the AFC Championship Game, and a Super Bowl victory—Harbaugh is now seeking new opportunities. Reports suggest that nine teams have expressed interest in him, although only six currently have head coaching vacancies.
Speculation arose that Harbaugh might take a break from coaching, but his brother, Jim Harbaugh, head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, dismissed that notion on Wednesday. He firmly stated, “He’s going to be the head coach next year. We’re going to play against him in some way… I hope it’s in the NFC.” It’s worth noting that during John’s early coaching years, Jim was in the NFC, leading to a Super Bowl matchup between the brothers.
The Ravens are preparing for a crucial game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, where the winner will be crowned AFC North Champion and secure a playoff spot. Unfortunately, the Ravens’ season ended on a disappointing note, as rookie kicker Tyler Loup missed a critical field goal attempt.
In an interesting turn of events, former President Donald Trump also chimed in, urging teams to consider hiring Harbaugh. He remarked on social media, “Hire John Harbaugh, quick. He and his brother are total winners!!!” Earlier this year, John and Jim had a meeting with Trump at the White House, during which they faced questions about Baltimore, a city Trump had previously criticized.
As for Harbaugh’s next steps, the New York Giants appear to be a leading candidate for him. The Giants recently fired Brian Daboll during the season, marking a significant change in their coaching staff since Tom Coughlin’s departure in 2015.
