Jim Harbaugh says he approached Colin Kaepernick to join Chargers coaching staff

Jim Harbaugh and Colin Kaepernick appeared in the Super Bowl together in 2013, and it seems the head coach would like to get his former quarterback to another Super Bowl appearance.

NFL source Mike Florio floated the idea of Kaepernick joining Harbaugh’s staff shortly after he joined the Los Angeles Chargers after nine seasons at Michigan, including a national championship, and apparently had a hunch.

Harbaugh said this week that he’s not only spoken to Kaepernick about joining the Chargers’ staff, but that the player is, in fact, “considering it.”

But Harbaugh said Kaepernick’s coaching future could be bright.

“I think if he goes down that path, that’s great,” Harbaugh said. “I think he’ll be a great coach if he chooses to go down that path.”

Kapernick recently told Sky Sports that he is still “training” and “working his way” towards returning to the NFL, where he has not played since 2016, shortly after he began kneeling during the national anthem in protest of racism and police brutality.
