Jim Irsay, the longtime owner of the Indianapolis Colts, has died at 65, as announced by the team on Wednesday.

Irsay’s father acquired the Colts in 1972 for $12 million when they were still based in Baltimore, and the franchise was relocated in 1984.

He served as the team’s general manager between 1982 and 1996.

Throughout his life, Irsay faced numerous health challenges and struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, recently undergoing treatment for an overdose.
