Jim Ross Declares Victory Over Cancer
Legendary wrestling commentator Jim Ross is cancer-free and has set his sights on new goals.
At 73, Ross announced during a recent episode of his “Grill JR” podcast that he won his battle against colon cancer, just a month after sharing his diagnosis.
“I’m so happy that the cancer is gone,” he expressed during the episode.
Looking ahead, Ross is eager to return to the commentary desk for AEW’s major event at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, scheduled for July 12. It’s a significant occasion, especially since it marks AEW’s first event in the U.S. after holding shows at Wembley Stadium in London for the last two years.
Interestingly, Ross had ambitions for last year’s main event, demonstrating his deep commitment to the organization.
This recent battle comes after an earlier fight against skin cancer in 2021, from which he had recovered by the end of that year. He underwent surgery shortly after revealing his colon cancer diagnosis in May.
Ross expressed gratitude toward AEW President Tony Khan for his support during this challenging time. “Tony Khan was amazing,” he remarked on the podcast. “He really supported me. I’m really grateful for that. That’s how the boss should act.”
Although Ross has taken on a more limited role in recent years, he has been with AEW since its inception in 2019, following a 25-year tenure with WWE.
His journey in wrestling began back in 1974 as a judge for the NWA Tri-State, and he transitioned to broadcasting in 1977, paving the way for a prolific career.
Ross was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007, solidifying his legacy in the world of professional wrestling.
