Jimmy Johnson retires: NFL legend announces retirement from broadcasting

Jimmy Johnsonan NFL coaching legend and a leading figure in “Fox NFL Sunday,” announced he would retire from broadcasting.

Johnson joined Fox Sports in 1994. He joined the network after finishing his coaching for the Miami Dolphins. He appeared regularly alongside Terry Bradshaw and Howie Long and subsequent Michael Strahan and Rob Gronkowski, providing pre-game, halftime and post-game analysis for the NFL game.

The 81-year-old two-time Super Bowl champion head coach revealed in “a pack with Colin Kauhard” that the 2024 season will be his last.

“I made a very difficult decision. I've been thinking about it for the past four or five years. I decided to retire from Fox,” he said. “I'm going to miss it. I'm going to miss everyone. It was a great run back 31 years ago.”

Fox Sports CEO Eric Shanks called Johnson's retirement news “bittersweet.”

“Jimmy Johnson was there when “Fox NFL Sunday” first aired 31 years ago. He has been a precious member of our Fox Sports family ever since.

It was broadcast on the news that he was in the Professional Football Hall of Fame – an opportunity we'll never forget.

“I hope he will be the best as he will miss the coach so deeply that only Jimmy Johnson can do.”

Bradshaw and Long is the only teammate who has been on the show since its inception in 1994. Pam Oliver took part in the Fox NFL coverage in 1995.
